Dread & Delight: Fairy Tales in an Anxious World Opens Aug. 25 at the Weatherspoon Art Museum

Dread & Delight: Fairy Tales in an Anxious World, an exhibition featuring pieces from more than a dozen contemporary artists, will open at the Weatherspoon Art Museum on Aug. 25. According to the museum, the works will “use classical fairy tales to address the complexities of our lives today.”

David Hockney, Ana Teresa Fernandez and Alison Saar are among those included in the exhibition. The show runs through Dec. 9. Admission is free. The exhibition contains some mature content, and the Weatherspoon advises those thinking about bringing children to preview it beforehand. Weatherspoon.UNCG.edu

Tanger Family Bicentennial Garden Picnic in the Park

Tanger Family Bicentennial Garden will be hosting Picnic in the Park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Aug. 11. The event will feature food trucks from Ghassan’s, Baconessence and Kona Ice. Those attending are invited to tour the David and Rachel Caldwell Historical Center in the adjacent David Caldwell Historic Park. Visitors are welcome to bring lawn chairs and blankets. A video game trailer and laser tag tent will also be onsite.


Wine & Design to Host Paint Your Pet Event on Aug. 18

Animal lovers can show off their artistic skills and support a good cause Aug. 18 at Wine & Design. The Greensboro art studio is hosting Paint Your Pet, an event in which participants will be creating portraits of their dogs, cats and other critters on 16-by-20-inch canvasses. Proceeds will benefit Break the Chain Kennel Kru, a nonprofit that promotes anti-tethering ordinances. The event will begin at 6 p.m. and costs $65 per person. WineAndDesign.com
