Spirit Airlines Debuts at PTI

Spirit Airlines will make its debut at Piedmont Triad International Airport on Sept. 6. The low-cost carrier will offer service from the Gate City to Orlando, Fort Lauderdale and Tampa. According to a news release, PTI is the 66th airport to be served by the airline. Spirit will operate two flights a week to Tampa and Fort Lauderdale and three to Orlando. The airline will add another weekly flight to each of those cities in November.

“The Airport Authority is very excited to welcome Spirit to PTI,” Stephen D. Showfety, chairman of the Piedmont Triad Airport Authority, said in a news release. “Spirit is an ultra-low-cost carrier that is building a sterling reputation for reliable, on-time service to key markets. Spirit service at PTI is a great win for the airport and a great win for the community and the state.”

 

Greensboro to Host North Carolina Folk Festival Sept. 7-9

Greensboro will host the first North Carolina Folk Festival Sept. 7-9.

Nationally renowned fiddler and banjo player Rhiannon Giddens, along with Greensboro children’s music group Big Bang Boom and step-dancers the Fitzgeralds will be among those taking the stage.

The event is an outgrowth of the National Folk Festival, which Greensboro hosted from 2015 to 2017. The National Folk Festival will take place this year in Salisbury, Maryland.

Musicians will play on outdoor stages and in venues spread out around downtown Greensboro. The festival will also have a North Carolina Folklife Demonstration Area with storytellers and artisans from around the state. All performances during the festival are free to attend. Curb Market Seeks Vendors

The Greensboro Farmers Curb Market, 501 Yanceyville St., is looking for new vendors for its Wednesday market.

According to an announcement on its website, the farmers market gives priority to “farm vendors who offer fresh foods,” but also welcomes craft makers and artisans.

In addition to Wednesdays, the market also operates on Saturdays.

Those interested in selling at the market can find applications at GSOFarmersMarket.org. The deadline to apply for the fall season is Sept. 29.

All items sold at the market must be grown or made within a 100-mile radius of Greensboro.
