The Greensboro Jaycees Reflect on a Year Proving Their Creed that “Service to Humanity Is the Best Work of Life”
The Greensboro Jaycees were established as a local chapter of the Junior Chamber International or JCI (Jaycees) in 1936 for young people seeking to create positive change in their community.
How are they still going after 82 years? While other young professional organizations focus on networking, the Jaycees emphasize real-world training opportunities that ensure each member builds the right skills to become the best leaders in their careers and community. The chapter has a rich local history that includes the founding of organizations such as the Greater Greensboro Open and the Greensboro Christmas Parade. In recent years, the Jaycees have formed partnerships with local nonprofits such as Action Greensboro, the Wyndham Championship, DGI and the Greensboro Chamber.
True to their creed that “Service to humanity is the best work of life,” in 2018, the chapter organized a wine festival that brought 1,500 people and $30,000 of business to downtown, fed more than 300 people at Urban Ministries and raised more than $35,000 to support Make-A-Wish, Junior Achievement, the International Association of Women and other nonprofits.
The Jaycees want everyone to know that they are listening and ready to empower our young professionals to make a positive impact in Greensboro. They understand that their success depends on having the community and local organizations behind them, and they are proud to be part of such a vibrant and supportive community.
Cheers to 2019,
Derek Mobley, Greensboro Jaycees president
