The Dad: City Lake Park
Whether young or old, when you think of Dad and what he likes to do, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? If yours is anything like mine, either naps, grilling or fishing were inevitably a couple of the first thoughts you had.
Alone or together with their mini-me crews, City Lake Park offers something for all the dads out there:
+ bank and boat fishing
+ excursion boats
+ picnic shelters and tables
The Sports Fanatic: First National Bank Field
Located in the heart of downtown Greensboro, First National Bank Field is home to the minor league baseball team the Greensboro Grasshoppers. In addition to its regularly scheduled baseball games, the stadium has also hosted an ACC tournament, a tournament that got the park the North Carolina record for college baseball game attendance.
The park houses 36 concession stands, essentially providing you everything you could ask for at a minor league stadium. From typical stadium snacks, including funnel cakes, peanuts and more to grilled chicken sandwiches, chopped brisket and street tacos, the variety is sure to surprise.
The stadium offers bottled water, soda and lemonade as well as a variety of alcohol, including local beer from Natty Greene’s and the GoTriad grandstand outdoor sports bar.
The field features 16 luxury suites, 26 grandstand boxes and party deck and a 30-foot-wide open concrete concourse that wraps around the ballpark. This gives fans the opportunity to see the game from any vantage point in the stadium.
The Athlete: Ultimate Climbing Gym
The Ultimate Climbing gym at Tumblebees is a state-of-the-art facility with 40 feet of “cutting-edge” surfaces, as well as one the largest bouldering areas in the Southeast. Whether you are an experienced climber or have no idea what indoor climbing is, the professional staff is happy to assist.
The gym contains more than 2,000 square feet of bouldering space, 16 top ropes and a 40-foot-tall lead climbing area. Here, you can safely climb to 35 feet off the ground. Each top rope station offers different and unique challenges and features to overcome, with two to three routes per wall. Routes are set from 5.7 to 5.13, and should you wish to climb harder than that, they can set something for you.
Rock climbing gives you a cardio and strength building in one workout. In addition to muscle strengthening, rock climbing improves flexibility and allows for an increase in mental strength and reduction in stress. On top of it all, the variety in indoor rock climbing provides you with an amazing experience time and time again while providing a sense of accomplishment.
